Overview

Reading and marking up documents often means switching between several viewers, each handling only a few formats. Okular is a universal document viewer from the KDE project that opens PDF, PostScript, comic book archives and various image formats in a single application. Beyond viewing, Okular supports native PDF annotations, so you can highlight, comment on and edit documents that use the standard PDF annotation model. Its functionality is split into a desktop shell, a KParts plugin that other applications can embed, a Kirigami-based mobile interface, and separate generator plugins that add support for each document type. Okular is aimed at desktop users, particularly on KDE Plasma, who want one lightweight reader for many formats. It is built from source with CMake, and a user manual and bug tracker are maintained by the KDE community.
