Overview

Many messaging apps leave conversations readable by the service provider or expose metadata about who talks to whom. Signal Android addresses this with a private messenger for Android that uses your phone's data connection over WiFi, 4G or 5G to send high-fidelity messages and place HD voice and video calls. Privacy-preserving technology is always enabled, so users do not need to configure anything to keep their conversations secure. The app is aimed at anyone who wants free, instant communication with friends, family or colleagues anywhere in the world without giving up control of their data. It is distributed through the Google Play Store and signal.org, and the same messenger is also available for iOS and desktop. Bug reports, beta testing and translation work are coordinated through GitHub and the Signal community forum. Signal Android is licensed under the GNU AGPLv3, so its source code is publicly available for review, modification and contribution. Developers who want to inspect how the client works or propose changes can start with the contributing guide and the project wiki.
