Overview
Claude performs better on specialized work when it knows the exact steps, conventions and resources for a task. Skills are folders containing a SKILL.md file with instructions, metadata and optional scripts that Claude loads dynamically when they are relevant, so a task such as creating branded documents or following an organization's workflow can be repeated consistently.
This repository from Anthropic collects example skills ranging from creative work such as art, music and design to technical tasks such as testing web apps and generating MCP servers, and enterprise workflows such as communications and branding. Many are released under the Apache 2.0 license, and the repository also contains the spec for the Agent Skills standard and a starter template for writing your own.
It is aimed at developers and teams who want reference patterns for building custom skills. The skills are provided for demonstration and educational purposes, so they should be tested in your own environment before being relied on for critical work. Installation is available through Claude Code's plugin marketplace, Claude.ai and the Claude API.”
