From public sourcesWindmill is an open-source, self-hostable developer platform that turns Python, TypeScript and other scripts into APIs, workflows, background jobs and internal UIs.
Overview
Teams often have useful scripts scattered across repos and cron jobs, with no easy way to share them as internal tools, chain them into workflows or give non-developers a form to run them. Windmill addresses this by turning minimal scripts into webhooks, scheduled jobs and auto-generated UIs, and by letting you compose them into flows or build richer low-code apps on top.
Scripts can be written in Python, TypeScript, Go, Bash, SQL and several other languages, edited in the built-in web IDE or synced from your own Git repository through the CLI or VS Code extension. Triggers include schedules, webhooks, HTTP routes, Kafka, WebSockets and email. Windmill uses a Postgres-backed job queue, sandboxes jobs with nsjail, and stores credentials encrypted per workspace.
It is aimed at platform and backend engineers who want to power internal infrastructure with code. The community edition is licensed under AGPLv3 and can be self-hosted with Docker Compose or Helm, and it is positioned as an open-source alternative to Retool and Temporal.
